According to its approved Internal Regulation , the Laboratory of Applied Cross-Cultural and Social Psychology serves the following teaching and research needs of the Department of Psychology.
- Design and conduct of psychological research in the fields of culture, acculturation processes and the integration of culturally diverse and minority groups, intergroup relations, and interpersonal communication.
- Training of doctoral, postgraduate, and undergraduate students, as well as researchers, in cross-cultural methodology and the use of culturally informed psychometric instruments.
- Professional development and training for practitioners working with culturally diverse populations and minority groups.
- Design, implementation, and evaluation of intervention programs aimed at promoting intergroup relations and addressing social problems such as prejudice, discrimination, and racism.
- Strengthening the university’s engagement with the community through the organization of open scientific events and collaboration in joint initiatives with representatives of civil society.
The above functions of the Laboratory serve the following objectives:
- Development of research, educational, and related activities in accordance with the principles of ethics and professional conduct in psychology and within the framework of the Internal Regulations of the Department of Psychology.
- Coverage of teaching and research needs—at doctoral, postgraduate, and undergraduate levels—of the Department of Psychology, as well as other Departments of NKUA, in areas concerning the study of behavior in relation to culture, acculturation, diversity, intergroup and interpersonal relations, as specified in Article 1 of the present Internal Rules of Operation.
- Promotion of interdisciplinary research among the academic fields represented within the School of Philosophy of NKUA that fall within the psychological study of culture, diversity, intergroup relations, and interpersonal communication.
- Organization of lectures, training seminars, conferences, symposia, workshops, and other scientific events, with the participation of distinguished Greek and international scholars.
- Publication of empirical studies and production of specialized educational material on topics aligned with the Laboratory’s mission, addressed to professionals working with culturally diverse and minority groups (e.g., mental health professionals, educators, public and municipal employees, NGO staff, among others).
- Collaboration with other Laboratories of the Department of Psychology, as well as with research centers and/or academic institutions in Greece and abroad, in pursuit of shared academic and community-oriented goals.
- Contribution to public policy design concerning the management of culture and diversity through the development of empirically grounded proposals and their submission to relevant authorities.
- Development of products and provision of services to private entities, in accordance with Presidential Decree 159/1984 (Government Gazette 53/A’, Articles 3 and 4, para. 3).
